Faculty

Our teachers come from premier dance schools, colleges, and professional companies. They are highly educated in many technique styles of ballet, jazz, modern, and tap, as well as injury prevention, correct body and foot alignment, dance history, and choreography.It is a truly holistic approach to dance. We also bring in guest teachers whenever possible to expand our dancers’ education.

JoJean Retrum Professional dancer & graduate of UW-Milwaukee in dance, music and theater. Training includes study at American Ballet Theatre and the Harkness House in NYC, and with teachers such as Gus Giordano, Luigi, and Joe Tremaine. Previously a soloist with the Milwaukee Ballet Company and Ruth Page Company, she also performed for 10 years at Melody Top Theater. Currently, JoJean is the Director of Monona Academy of Dance and the Artistic Director of Dance Wisconsin.

Jean Adams – A member of the Dance Masters of America, she has studied with such gifted teachers as Gus Giordano, Al Gilbert, and Ron Daniels. She has devoted over 60 YEARS to teaching all levels of dance to children and adults. She is well known for her excellent costume designing skills, which have won her countless awards. Currently, Jean is the co-director and costume coordinator of Monona Academy of Dance and Vice President of Dance Wisconsin’s Board.

Robin Fonfara – Graduate of UW–Stevens Point with a degree in Dance Education. She has taught extensively in the Madison area and is currently instructing at Madison Area Technical College. Robin is Assistant Director of Dance Wisconsin.

Celia Pierquet Flores – A graduate of Monona Academy of Dance and dancer with Mad City Dancers and Dance Wisconsin. She studied at Milwaukee Ballet, Joffrey Midwest, Orlando Ballet, Ballet Hispanico and danced professionally with Milwaukee Ballet II & Dayton Contemporary Dance Company. She has taught at the Milwaukee Ballet School, in the Milwaukee Area Public Schools, in a demo-video in the Milwaukee Children's Museum, MSCR Programs, at DCDC Dance School, in the Dayton Public Schools, and Dance Academy LTD in Elm Grove, WI. Celia is currently attending GRAD school at Edgewood College. Celia is a Rehearsal Assistant and Choreographer for Dance Wisconsin.

Dottie Rowin-Vance is an alumnus of MAD and Dance Wisconsin. Currently she is an office assistant and teacher for Monona Academy of Dance. She is attending the University of Phoenix for her BA in Business Management. Her biggest passion is teaching and performing with Dance Wisocnsin.

Danielle Dickert-Fuhrmann - Did summer intensives at Walnut Hill and Virginia School of the Arts.  Her professional theatre credits include: West Side Story, Guys and Dolls and 7 Brides for 7 Brothers.  Danielle performed on the Disney Cruise Line on both the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder.  Of all her roles she played onboard, Cinderella and the Lion King pas de deux were her favorite.   After performing, teaching and choreographing in New York and Colorado she is happy to be back in Madison with Monona Academy of Dance.  She recently won the Project Tier Choreography award for Reginal Dance America for her works with Dance Wisconsin. Danielle will be performing this winter in a Fireside Christmas at Fireside Theatre.

Chelsey Dahm  - Alumnus of MAD & Dance Wisconsin, Chelsey graduated from UWEC where she was president of the Concert Dance Company, received a grant for new choreography, and was named "Outstanding Dance Graduate."  Many of her pieces have been selected for Gala performances at American College Dance Festivals & Mid-States Regional Dance America.  Her choreography has been recognized and honored at the national level - she has received RDA's highest choreography award, the National Choreography Commissioning Award, in both 2010 & 2009.  She also recieved RDA's Monticello Scholarship for best emerging choreography in 2006.  She spent multiple summers at the Craft of Choreography Conference on full scholarship. Most recently, she recieved a grant from the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission to create "Solitude." Chelsey is also a student at UW Law School. 

Jonathon Person, Graduate of MAD and Dance Wisconsin. He has danced professionally with the Louisville Ballet and Dance Theater of Harlem. He currently is a dancer with Dance Wisconsin and teaches men’s class, hip hop, jazz, pas de duex, and ballet.

Richard PersonHas been dancing hip hop for over 26 years and obtained all of his hip hop skills from the underground circuit in Chicago in styles of Krumping, break dancing, house, bbooying, and many more. He has been teaching beginner and advanced hip hop the past four years at MAD. He has attended Columbia College in Chicago and is now attending MATC for Culinary Arts. Currently he is mentoring and choreographing for hip hop youth social dance clubs in the Madison area particularly LaFaylotte and teaching at MAD.
