Monona Academy of Dance is owned and operated by Jo Jean Retrum. It is a wonderful school to begin your dance education. The primary focus is on ballet as it is the foundation of all dance. Many other genres are offered such as tap, jazz, modern and hip hop.
Rehearsing out of Monona Academy of Dance is Dance Wisconsin a non profit 501(c)3 performance company that presents opportunities for dancers from all over, not just students of MAD, to perform in full length ballets and original choreography pieces. Summer DANCE options announced for Summer 2017
the following options will be available this summer at Monona Academy of Dance:
Princess/Prince Dance Camp - Four days of fun for girls and boys from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm. Instruction includes creative movement, basic ballet, introduction to other dance genres, games, videos and snack. Perfect for ages 3 - 5. Monona location June 12th - 15th and Sun Prairie location July 17th - 20th.
Young Dancer Camp - An excellent opportunity for your 6 - 9 year old looking to learn more about all genres of dance. Four days of classes will be offered from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm. Dancers will work on ballet technique, tapp, jazz, musical theater and learn some dance history. Dancers will need proper footwear, water and snacks. Monona location June 26th - 29th and Sun Prairie location June 19th - 22nd.
Choreography and Musical Theater Camp - This four day camp narrows its focus to how is choreography created, whom are some famous choreographers and what was their specific style, how do I audition for shows, famous musical theater choreography, singing and dancing together and presenting a monologue. This week is available to dancers age 9 - 18 years of age. It will occur only at the Monona location June 26th - 29th from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Early drop off is available through special arrangement with staff.
4 Week Dance Intensive - If your dancer is looking to grow their skills in multiple genres this summer or are they interested in becoming a member of Monona Academy of Dance's MAD City Dancers than our dance intensive is for them. Depending upon their individual goals one week or all four weeks may be appropriate. When registering be sure to speak with Monona Academy of Dance staff or owner Jo Jean Retrum as to what option is best for your dancer. Dancers from any dance studio are welcome to attend. Focus will be: ballet technique, tap, jazz, modern, choreography, dance history and the art of performance. These four weeks are offered only at the Monona location July 3rd - 27th. Class days are Monday - Thursday from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Early drop off is available through special arrangement with the staff.

Sun Prairie-838 Grove Street within the Sun Prairie Ice Arena
Enter the front doors and turn to right into the Cardinal Rink. The studio is then to your left once inside the Cardinal Rink. Dancers can also enter the rear door of the building near the Monona Academy of Dance sign. Proceed up the steps and the studio is immediately to your left once you leave the stairwell
Dance wear is available only at the La Boutique store at 6332 Monona Drive.
